Behavioural Finance

Watch our interview with Academic Programme Director Professor Raghavendra Rau.

Overview

Behavioural Finance has emerged as an important new field of knowledge and insight. Investors don't always fully understand risk and sometimes act under the influence of systematic biases when choosing securities, investments and assets.

This programme examines various behavioural decision traps and highlights the biases that can influence these key strategic investment decisions.

Topics covered include:

  • Overview of arbitrage
  • Market efficiency
  • Investor behavioural biases
  • Can arbitrageurs take advantage of investor biases?

This programme can be taken on its own or together with five others as a consolidated series. On completion of all six programmes, participants receive the Cambridge Judge Business School Financial Management Certificate of Achievement. On completing the FMCA you will be eligible to become an associate member of Cambridge Judge Business School's global network of graduates and business-focused University of Cambridge alumni, faculty and staff.

Benefits

  • Understand the limits of arbitrage
  • Understand how to survive in an irrational market

This programme counts as one course for those completing the Cambridge Judge Business School General Management Certificate of Achievement or Cambridge Judge Business School Financial Management Certificate of Achievement. On completing either the GMCA or FMCA you will be eligible to become an associate member of Cambridge Judge Business School's global network of graduates and business-focused University of Cambridge alumni, faculty and staff.

Who should attend

This programme is appropriate for mid-level analysts and investment specialists who already have a sound understanding of fundamental and technical analysis. As such, they are interested in understanding why anomalies occur in financial markets and whether it is possible to take advantage of predictable biases in order to increase returns.

I enjoyed the session very much, Professor Rau‎ was excellent. I've since had a chance to look through the way that some of the material is covered by the standard textbooks in the Corporate Finance field and the Cambridge materials are more detailed and richer in terms of research references, findings and explanations. Maintaining this standard across the range of courses offered makes the Financial Management Programme of Achievement well worth acquiring. You get my overall thumbs up on this offering.
