Idea

The OCD Research Partnership is a new medical charity that focuses on developing new and better treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a debilitating mental illness.

Team

Dr Nick Sireau is the founder and chairman and is a serial social entrepreneur. Dr Gayaneh Szenkovits is a cognitive neuroscientist who has worked at the Cambridge MRC labs. Dr Vincenzo Garzya is a pharmacologist who has worked on mental health at GSK and currently works at AstraZeneca in Cambridge.

Impact

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterised by persistent intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours (compulsions) aimed at relieving the distress caused by the obsessions. The World Health Organization has classified OCD as one of the 10 most debilitating diseases. OCD affects 2% of the population – that’s one million people in the UK alone. Medication and psychotherapy for OCD is outdated and far from effective in all cases. Our social mission is to develop new and better treatments for OCD patients around the world and raise awareness about this hidden condition.
