New media for researchers

entering hyperspaceYou probably hear about new online tools all the time and wonder if they might be useful for you. Most of us feel like we don’t have the time to figure that out properly. But by not using these tools you’re likely missing opportunities to optimise how you gather and organise information, network with colleagues and manage your online presence.

We at IL&S regularly assess which new media tools can help researchers and have put that information on a website. Some highlights of that site are:

- The New Media Bulletin, published once a month, which lists cutting-edge and interesting resources

- Guidelines on getting the most from Twitter from an academic perspective

- Lists of useful tools for in cloud storage, referencing, start pages and news gathering

As the site says, it’s an evolving list, so please check back regularly for updates, or better yet, subscribe to the RSS feed (we can help you with that).

Do please let us know if you have any questions or input for the new site.
