MoTI (Management of Technology & Innovation)
The Management of Technology and Innovation programme (MoTI) provides scientists and engineers with skills and experience in the commercialisation of technology. The programme is run by Cambridge Judge Business School, and was established in 2003 with funding from the Cambridge-MIT Institute.
Who is MoTI for?
Participants in the MoTI programme come from a wide range of places affiliated with the University of Cambridge. These include:
- Taught masters degrees in applied science or engineering
- Science and technology PhD programmes (notably in the life sciences and in nanotechnology)
- ERBI, a membership-based biotechnology cluster affiliated with the University of Cambridge
Although not a degree programme itself, MoTI can be an element in some of the degrees programmes offered by the University of Cambridge. However many MoTI participants attend without undertaking the formal assessment.
The MoTI programme
Our programme comprises two main elements: evening lectures and company consultancy projects.
Evening Lecture Series
Some MoTI partners only associate with the evening lecture series, which take place in Autumn and Spring. In the past, our lecture series have explored such topics as Strategy for Innovative Firms, Organising for Innovation, Commercialising Science, Marketing, Microeconomics and Decision Analysis.Consultancy Projects
In the Lent Term (January-March) some MoTI partners make use of our in-company consultancy projects. Participants work in small teams as consultants for real technology-based businesses and organisations, tackling genuine issues of concern to those corporate clients. As such the MoTI participants have an opportunity to 'learn by doing' in a real-life environment.
How do I sign up?
Participation is arranged via one of our partners (e.g. via ERBI if your company is a member; or via your department if you're a student on one of our affiliated University of Cambridge degree programmes).
We are interested in associating with new suitable partner programmes and organisations, so if you represent such an organisation or programme, please get in touch.
