The MRes programme is fully integrated with your PhD. During the MRes year you acquire tailored foundational and methodological training for your doctoral work and are introduced to the frontier of academic knowledge in your chosen discipline. You will also become acquainted with the practice of conducting research through a significant supervised research project/study, which you will summarise in a dissertation that accounts for 50 per cent of the total mark.
The Master of Research (MRes) route to our PhD is designed specifically for students with experience at masters level in a subject relevant to one of the following PhD pathways:
Taught modules are assessed by essay, coursework, individual presentation or group presentation. The 16,000 word dissertation mark counts for 50% of the final mark.
Continuation to the PhD is subject to performance on the MRes programme. You continue to the PhD if you obtain a final mark of over 70% for your MRes. The pass mark for obtaining the MRes degree is 60%.
