Professional experience
Nick Cavalla was appointed as the first CIO of the University of Cambridge's investment office in April 2007. The investment office is responsible for the management of central assets of the University including its endowment fund.
For the years 1997-2007 Nick was employed by Man Investments, latterly as chief investment officer of Man Global Strategies (MGS), one of the three multi-manager alternative investment divisions within Man Group plc. He was responsible for finding, and carrying out due diligence into alternative investment managers, their subsequent monitoring and portfolio allocation. The MGS investment model emphasised contracting with early stage managers, the use of proprietary capital to seed investment partnerships and the use of managed accounts to maximise portfolio risk transparency and custodial security.
Previously Nick was a director of GNI Limited and the portfolio manager of a systematic hedge fund investing in developed foreign exchange markets. His earlier career included periods working for County NatWest Investment Management and Touche Ross & Co, where he qualified as a chartered accountant. He is a member also of the Association of Corporate Treasurers and a graduate in mathematics of King's College, Cambridge.
