The Centre conducts research and engage with key partners in the following strategic areas:
India as a global innovation hub
How and why the world’s largest multinationals are increasingly locating their global R&D and innovation activities in India (and other countries like it).
Indian firms going global
How Indian firms (relative to firms from other emerging markets) are going global and moving up the value chain.
Co-innovation with the bottom of the pyramid
How firms and other organisations are engaging those who live on less than $5 a day as value-adding partners through innovative products, services and business models.
The Centre for India & Global Business, established in 2008 with financial support from the BP Foundation, is headed by Professor Jaideep Prabhu, the Jawaharlal Nehru Professor of Indian Business & Enterprise.

Welcome message
“The Centre for India & Global Business is a wonderful example of the University of Cambridge’s growing engagement with India. It plays a central role in enabling and sustaining links between business, academic and policy leaders from around the world, each eager to play their part as India takes its prominent place in the global economy.
“Propelled by a young population, dynamic entrepreneurs and a pluralistic democracy, the Indian economy is expected to be one of the world’s largest by 2030. But such development will depend on a breadth as well as depth of vision to include widening economic participation, and providing quality education and infrastructure in a sustainable way.
“Innovation and partnerships will be important means for addressing the challenges which lie ahead in the struggle for growth and sustainability. And it is in precisely the arena of innovation and partnership where Cambridge is best suited to play.
“We are grateful for the extraordinary generosity and foresight demonstrated by two institutions. The Government of India endowed the Jawaharlal Nehru Professorship of Indian Business & Enterprise at Cambridge Judge Business School, creating the academic heart of the Centre, whilst the BP Foundation’s start-up funds have invested in creating the initial infrastructure for the Centre to act as a catalyst for partnerships. Putting these two parts together provides the perfect context for the creation of knowledge about India and the global economy and the development of applications so that we can pursue human goals in a global environment.
“I trust you will find this website opens many doors to ways in which the Centre is bringing together business, academic and policy leaders and young people from around the world. The only criterion for entry is a fascination and determination for involvement in the way India is taking its place in the global economy.”
