Our clients & programmes

In partnership with our clients we create customised executive education programmes to address the specific needs and objectives of the organisation and its talent. We aspire to have a transformational impact on individual and organisational performance, using our programmes as a vehicle to identify what is limiting an organisation's or sector's success. We identify the knowledge, behaviour and actions that really need to change.

Our understanding of client organisations and their teams is furthered by implementing an in depth needs analysis process which involves research and first-hand interviews. This process helps us to recommend interventions likely to deliver a positive return on the investment in executive education made by the client organisation. We aim to craft programmes which authentically acknowledge the African context by including contributors with experience from across the continent.

The format of customised programmes varies considerably; we work collaboratively with clients to devise effective solutions to meet organisational or sectorial goals. We are able to draw on the wider University in order to meet our clients' regional goals around the building of strong institutions which deliver political and legislative stability, transparency and accountability; as well as diverse formal economies and a rise in the standard of living. In conjunction, the School is able to address the internal considerations faced by organisations in African countries and across the world in the areas of leadership, organisational behaviour, strategy, marketing, operations, technology, finance and accounting. In summary, executive education interventions for our clients simultaneously span broader regional challenges and more local objectives.

Our participants include civil servants - permanent secretaries, special advisors, accountants and attorney generals through to legislative officers, assistants and clerks and parliamentarians including active parliamentary committee members from various states, and regions. Programmes have also been delivered to university vice-chancellors, registrars and NGOs.

Lagos State House of Assembly

During 2014, we deeply engaged with Lagos State, particularly its state capital city, arguably the commercial heart of Africa, given the equivalence of its GDP to the nation of Tanzania. Specifically, our most in-depth intervention to date has been a Transformational Leadership and Organisational Change programme for the Lagos State House of Assembly, delivered in Cambridge and Nigeria to over 130 participants from across the organisation from assistants, clerks, officers and civil servants through to parliamentarians and senior leadership.

Despite the fact that the Lagos State House of Assembly is recognised as one of, if not the most, effective state legislatures in Africa, the state parliament made an investment to further develop one of its key resources - its people. Created by the faculty of Cambridge Judge Business School in collaboration with the State Assembly, the programme delivered knowledge, skills and behaviours regarding public-sector efficiency, effectiveness, negotiations, resource allocations and budgets. Discussions about social inequality, economic development and growth underpinned the entire programme and Cambridge faculty invited constructive evaluation by parliamentarians and the senior leadership. The "change" elements of the programme emboldened individuals from every level and section of the organisation to reach beyond their respective silos in order to have serious conversations with Cambridge faculty and, more importantly, with each other about the shape of the Assembly, its cultures, operations, internal and external strategies, objectives and its stakeholders across the administrations, networks, ecosystems and constituents.

The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Leadership in Parliamentary Oversight was the theme of a week-long executive education programme hosted at Cambridge Judge Business School for 15 senators and House of Representative members of the Nigerian National Assembly (NNA) in May 2014. The programme presented senior leaders with thought-provoking perspectives through debates, discussions and scenario planning facilitated by Cambridge faculty and outstanding practitioner networks. The focus was to support the National Assembly to strengthen its scrutiny role over the Nigerian Government. Parliamentary oversight is a multifaceted area of skills and processes, accordingly subjects under discussion included organisational leadership as well as energy and defence issues, budgets and scrutiny, and parliament's role in national security.

Cambridge Judge Business School worked with the University's Department of Politics and International Studies to co-create the programme design with the NNA. The National Assembly attended the programme in Cambridge and London, including sessions and speeches from parliamentary members of Cambridge's wider network. A member of Nigeria's National Institute for Legislative Studies was a part of the visiting group.

We have delivered programmes to a diverse range of corporate organisations with successful operations on the African continent including Barclays Africa, Statoil, SAB Miller and Standard Chartered Bank.

Barclays Africa

As part of a flagship executive education initiative for Barclay's Bank led by Executive Education's Centre for Compliance & Trust, programmes have been delivered across Barclays Bank's global operations. Faculty from Cambridge Judge Business School are in the process of delivering a series of programmes to Barclays Africa's talent from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius, Ghana and Egypt. The programmes aim to provide theoretical and behavioural guidance to compliance professionals. It shares insights that individuals and, teams would need to lead the creation of effective cultures of trust and compliance against, a background of complex regulatory regimes and a dynamic global financial system.
