Justice Adda

Making human rights information accessible and useful in South Asia.

Idea

Justice Adda is a human rights and legal design social venture, which aims to make the law and legal services, accessible, empowering and useful for everyone. Through identifying the legal needs and wants of people and organizations, they endeavour to develop content and tools to make legal systems inclusive and efficient.

Justice Adda provides legal communication expertise through backgrounders, infographics, instruction manuals, animation and web-based multimedia products for organizations that require engaging, succinct and plain-language content. They also build websites and apps for those working in the justice space and advise on human rights communication strategies. Through the information they publish, they we seek to improve people’s agency and give them tools that enhance their work.

People

Justice Adda is made up of a multi-disciplinary team of lawyers, designers, coders and social scientists who are passionate about making justice possible for everyone.

The team has members who have studied at the University of Cambridge, Bristol, Delhi, Parsons- The New School, and NIFT in India and have worked with organizations such as UNDP, Open Society Foundation, Oxfam, Government of Delhi, Pan Macmillan India, NCPCR India, ESPN and as consultants to several startups. These diverse experiences enable the team to reframe how we approach legal problems, brainstorm on multiple approaches to a solution and produce content in a user-centered way.

Justice Adda was founded by Siddharth Peter de Souza, who read for an LL.M. at the University of Cambridge in 2015-16 and is now a Doctoral Candidate at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

Impact

Justice Adda’s social mission is to make the law and legal services accessible, useful and empowering for everyone. 

They are committed to using design and technology to enable the development of content that helps to improve access to justice with the explicit aim of reducing barriers that might inhibit a justice user.

They aim to enhance people’s agency to participate fully and willingly in the legal system, to demand their rights and to be able to hold institutions of government accountable. They also aim to facilitate and support governmental and non-governmental bodies who share their mission to make the law work for everyone.

Justice Adda would like to hear from governmental, non- governmental and corporate bodies or individuals who require legal communication and technology expertise. We are also looking for potential volunteers from Universities and schools who are interested in working at the interface of law, design and technology on issues of human rights and access to justice.
