Senior Risk Researcher, Centre for Risk Studies (CRS)
MEng (University of Durham), MPhil, PhD (University of Cambridge)
Professional experience
Andrew Skelton leads research at the Centre for Risk Studies on the probabilistic modelling of systemic risk and the macroeconomics of catastrophe. He is currently working on the Cambridge Pandora Project – an ambitious multi-year industry-sponsored research agenda designed to improve our understanding of the risks facing business activity across the world from 22 different threat types including financial crises, geopolitical events, natural hazards, and technological catastrophes. Other recent work has included developing a Bayesian event tree model of marine risk for the insurance industry that combines historical data analysis with underwriter expert knowledge.
Andrew has previously held research posts in the Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research (4CMR) in the Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge, where he also completed his PhD research on the influence that regions, industries, and enterprises have over greenhouse gas emissions stemming from their global supply chains. Andrew has an earlier background in design and holds an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and a MEng from the University of Durham.
