Management Today: The failure of the first private NHS hospital is bad news for healthcare

Circle has announced last week they are planning to pull out of the contract to manage Hinchingbrooke Hopsital. Hinchingbrooke was the first privately-run NHS hospital when Circle took it over in 2012. The company said funding cuts and increased A&E attendances played a major part in their decision. Michael Kitson, University Senior Lecturer in International Macroeconomics at Cambridge Judge Business School, said that “health, education and security all have multiple objectives that are very hard to quantify and measure. You can’t pursue them in the same way.”
