The Economist: MBAs and the performing arts: the business in show business

 

David Sabel trained as an actor in America and France, then became a member of the Cambridge MBA class of 2008. A project at Cambridge Judge Business School led to a work placement at the National Theatre in London, and now, as head of the National Theatre’s Broadcast and Digital division, he runs the successful NT Live programme that beams live theatre into cinemas.

The National now has an audience who never step foot in the theatre,” he says. “So all the skills I learned in the MBA are important because our core business model is changing.
