The upcoming Competition & Markets Authority’s provisional report into energy will criticise flagship market reforms introduced by the regulator, Ofgem, writes Jon Rees. Stephen Littlechild, former electricity market regulator and Fellow in Privatisation, Regulation & Competition at Cambridge Judge, argues that too much regulation is not the best solution: “There was a fallacious belief that imposing regulations on suppliers would have no adverse impact on the range of prices offered in the market.”
