Hiring directors with the wrong sort of experience can have a negative effect on a company’s performance and governance, says a paper co-authored by Yasemin Kor, Beckwith Professor of Management Studies at Cambridge Judge Business School. “Three main messages came out of the paper: the value of experience in one’s own company, the potentially inhibiting effect of experience elsewhere, and the benefit of true outsiders,” Professor Kor said.
