According to Credit Suisse’s recent report, railroads dominated the US stock market at the beginning of the 20th century, but this has changed dramatically since then. Credit Suisse Global Investment Returns Yearbook 2017 looks at long-term return data and risk premium estimates for 23 national stock and bond markets in countries including the US, UK, France, Germany, China, Japan and South Africa. The report is co-authored by Professor Elroy Dimson, Chairman of the Newton Centre for Endowment Asset Management at Cambridge Judge Business School.
