Gender pay gap figures provide useful information, but companies may seek to reduce the pay gap by hiring very senior female professionals and this doesn’t provide a full picture, Sucheta says. “It’s important to focus on outreach and hire at all levels, and introduce sponsorship and mentoring for women – this kind of infrastructure can help and push the pipeline.”
