Scienmag: Arctic warming will accelerate climate change and impact global economy


According to a new paper, carbon released into the atmosphere by the increasing loss of Arctic permafrost, combined with higher solar absorption by the Earth’s surface due to the melting of sea ice and land snow, will accelerate climate change – and have a huge impact on the world economy. The paper was co-authored by Dr Chris Hope, Emeritus Reader in Policy Modelling at Cambridge Judge Business School, who has developed the PAGE09 (Policy Analysis of the Greenhouse Effect) model for measuring the economic cost of climate change.
