Dr Thomas Roulet, University Senior Lecturer in Organisation Theory, comments on the issue of ageism in the UK tech industry. “The norm in the tech industry is that if you are older, you have lost touch with what’s new and what’s hot,” he says. “So even if people do not experience direct discrimination, individuals feel at risk, and are over-conscious about their age, and they might themselves pass on the stereotype in their perception of older workers.”
