Chris Doran will chair a panel of experts who have been working in the creative industries as entrepreneurs and managers. Many of the most interesting and successful companies sit at the interface of art, technology and creativity. The panel will explore the role of the creative entrepreneur inside technology companies, and how future technology trends will shape opportunities in the creative sector.

David Helgason

David Helgason, Founder of Unity and Partner at Nordic Makers

David is a technologist, founder of a technology company, non-exec director to others, and a restless entrepreneur with a passion for creating feedback loops between innovation and teams and products, applying new and old business models to changing industries, and pushing people to do the very best they can do. David’s background is in programming, an assortment of university dabbling, creating companies, and helping entrepreneurs. He served as CEO of Unity Technologies since co-founding it in 2003 and until October 2014, with an unflinching vision to democratise game development, and to develop technology and business models for the next phase of the games industry.

Clare Green

Clare Green, Creative Manager & Women in Games Ambassador

Clare specialises in building networks and communities of creatives and artists. She is currently leading Creative Futures, an initiative designed to connect the University of Warwick with the region’s creative sector. Creative Futures will inspire students and graduates about creative and digital careers and support startups and companies in a new business incubator in the heart of Leamington Spa. Whilst in Cambridge, she led R&D projects on play, behavioural change and social impact at the arts & tech company, Collusion and ran a creative industries network and large events such as Brains Eden festival – UK’s largest student Game Festival, Culture Hack East and Design Icons, Cambridge’s first design festival whilst at Anglia Ruskin University.

Sébastien Deguy

Sébastien Deguy, Founder of Allegorithmic, now VP 3D and Immersive at Adobe

Founder of Allegorithmic, makers of “Substance”, now leading the 3D and Immersive initiative at Adobe. Musician, writer, essayist, dad, slasher, recursion lover.

Chris Doran

Dr Chris Doran, Entrepreneur In Residence, Cambridge Enterprise

Chris has been active in the startup scene for over 15 years. In 2005 he founded Geomerics during his time as an RSE Enterprise Fellow and moved into the CEO role at the end of his fellowship. Geomerics’ technology has since been used in 100s of games, including FIFA, Star Wars Battlefront and Overwatch. Geomerics was acquired by Arm in 2013, where Chris served as a Research Director and Entrepreneur in Residence. Chris is a regular mentor to academics looking to develop their technology beyond academia and has helped many of them start out on their journey. In 2019 he took on the role of Entrepreneur in Residence for Physical Sciences at Cambridge Enterprise, responsible for commercialising technology developed in Cambridge University. Chris is also a Director of Studies in Physics for Sidney Sussex College and prior to founding Geomerics he held numerous research posts, including an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship. He is the author of many research papers and a book on geometric algebra.
