Futurists are experts at systematically exploring predictions and possibilities about the future and how they can emerge from the present. You don’t have to be a visionary like Leonardo da Vinci to embrace these practical concepts when building your business.

Where will the new business opportunities come from? Our keynote speakers will share their insights on the transformational forces that could shape the future. How do they cultivate a mindset for scanning the horizon and developing a roadmap for action? How do they identify and work with early adopters who see the value in their ideas?

Join us for two short talks from our keynote speakers, followed by questions from our chair and audience. Discover how a futurist mindset can help you innovate and stay ahead of the curve in today’s fast-paced business environment.

Chaired by Professor Stelios Kavadias, Margaret Thatcher Professor of Enterprise Studies in Innovation & Growth and Vice-Dean for Faculty, Cambridge Judge Business School.

Guest keynote speakers:

  • Dr Rodrigo Santos, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Novo Seeds
  • Howard Saunders, The Retail Futurist

Professor Stylianos (Stelios) Kavadias is the Margaret Thatcher Professor of Enterprise Studies in Innovation & Growth, in the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. His research interests focus on the effectiveness of new product development (NPD) decisions. At a broader level he is seeking to understand the challenges that arise during the planning and execution phases of the innovation process, always with an operational/managerial perspective.

Rodrigo Santos.Dr Rodrigo Santos, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Novo Seeds

How do we spot a scientific invention and turn it into an adopted innovation? What are the biotechnologies in development today that will become products of tomorrow? In my short talk, I’ll present some current trends in regenerative medicine and highlight where I see upcoming opportunities in the space.

Rodrigo has over 10 years of experience in biotech, currently part of BiOrigin, the Entrepreneur-in-Residence team for Novo Seeds, the early-stage investment and company creation group of Novo Holdings. Rodrigo provides strategic and operational support for the creation of development of early-stage life science companies within the Novo Seeds portfolio.

He was the Director of Cell Technologies at Mogrify, a company developing in vivo reprogramming therapies. Previously, he was the Head of Technology at Elpis Biomed (now bit.bio) working on synthetic biology and cellular reprogramming; and prior to that, he was a Principal Scientist at Horizon Discovery working on iPS genome engineering. Rodrigo completed his PhD at the Stem Cell Institute, University of Cambridge, and holds a BSc and MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.

Howard Saunders.Howard Saunders, The Retail Futurist

The Retail Futurist, otherwise known as Howard Saunders, is a writer and speaker whose job it is to see beyond retail’s currently choppy waters.

Howard spent the first twenty five years of his career at some of London’s most renowned retail design agencies, including Fitch & Company, where he created concepts, strategies and identities for dozens of British high street brands.

Howard relocated to New York in 2012 where the energetic regeneration of Brooklyn inspired his book, Brooklynization, published in 2017. His newfound role as champion for retail’s future in our town and city centres gave rise to the title The Retail Futurist.

Howard’s talks are hi-energy, jargon-free journeys that explore the exciting, if not terrifying, retail landscape that lies ahead.
