Are you an aspiring entrepreneur with a great idea that aligns to the blueprint for a better future provided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals? Or a passionate supporter of sustainability principles with skills and ideas to contribute to a founding team? Are you interested in developing a new venture capable of providing breakthrough solutions to the complex problems addressed by the goals including health, energy, food, agriculture, education, poverty, inequality and climate change?

If so, come and join us at the Venture Creation: Sustainability programme supported by Santander.

With COP 26 starting on 1 November 2021, there is no better focus to kickstart the first cohort of the new academic year.

The Venture Creation programme matches great ideas with exciting talent; and provides a springboard for founders and team members to work towards creating:

  • Early-stage ventures orientated towards transforming the future for the better.
  • Early-stage ventures with demonstrable potential when applying to larger accelerator programmes or with the capacity to directly explore opportunities for going to market and attracting investment.
  • Founding teams built on common values and culture
  • Robust and supportive networks in the entrepreneurial ecosystem including a peer cohort of dedicated founders.

Your ideas, skills and interests may align with one goal but joining this cohort will give you an understanding of how the goals interconnect and impact on each other. Exploring the opportunities in your team’s idea from multiple perspectives will inform the design of an innovative business to match an innovative idea.

Participation in the programme will help you develop your capacity for future innovation in addition to an entrepreneurial mindset that will support you throughout your career choices.

Bring your ideas and talents to Venture Creation: Sustainability and watch the possibilities emerge!

How the Venture Creation programme works

By signing up, you will become part of the very first Venture Creation: Sustainability cohort. You and your cohort will move through the following stages:

    Stage 1: The Orientation Weekend

    Duration: 17:00–21:00 Friday 29 October and 09:30-19:00 Saturday 30 October 2021

Aspiring entrepreneurs and their ideas with be matched with potential founding team members to explore and validate the possibilities of turning an idea into a viable opportunity for a new venture.

In a supportive, safe but challenging space, workshops and mentoring sessions will guide the teams through the process of capturing an idea’s potential and value, helping the teams to develop and experiment with innovative business models and preparing their first pitch.

The weekend will end with a guided session on identifying a clear and compelling way forward for each team and team member with the identification of small but meaningful action steps.

Stage 2: The Venture Creation Labs

Starting on 1 December 2021, Venture Creation Labs will run once a month on a Wednesday from 16:00-18:00. The Labs are a mix of informal online and/or face to face mentoring and peer review sessions designed to help the teams build momentum and develop the skills and networks they need.

These Labs are open to anyone who has attended an orientation weekend.  Attendance is open to the original team or a new version of that team, or to individuals with a new idea that emerged from their experiences at the Venture creation event.

Diversity is key to the running of these Labs so attendees will benefit from networking with early-stage ventures across different sectors but at the same time will have access to experienced mentors with relevant sector experience.
