Fees
The combined fee for our two-year MSt in Social Innovation is £33,600 (£16,800 per annum), which includes College membership. This fee applies to students commencing their studies in October 2023 and completing their studies by 2025. The same fee applies to all MSt in Social Innovation students, irrespective of their nationality.
In addition to this, students need to budget for the cost of travel, accommodation and subsistence during the residential teaching blocks in Cambridge (three residentials of one week each in the first year, and one residential of one week in the second year).
Financing your MSt
Studentships and scholarships
If you have been made an offer of admission to the programme, the MSt in Social Innovation team will instruct you on how to apply for the various studentships and scholarships outlined below.
Applications are accepted after the programme application window has closed on Friday 31 March 2023. Once all recommendations for offers are made, the programme team will be in touch with clear instructions on how to apply for our studentships.
The deadline for all studentship/scholarship applications is by 12:00 midday on 17 May 2023. All applications are reviewed after this deadline and decisions will not be made until recruitment is finalised.
The MSt in Social Innovation Studentships
The MSt in Social Innovation has made several studentships available to candidates already engaged with the social sector. We welcome applications from those working at organisations with limited resources, irrespective of nationality or geographical location of the candidate.
The studentships will cover half of the fees (£8,400 payable in 2023/24 and £8,400 payable in 2024/25).
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit an expression of interest explaining (in 500 words):
- how the masters programme will benefit your organisation (ie describe a change project of social innovation nature) or your social innovation business idea
- how you may be able to have an impact beyond your own organisation
- how you will be able to promote the MSt in Social Innovation to future applicants.
Candidates must have received an offer to join the programme in October 2023 before they can be considered for the studentships.
The CJBS Studentships for University of Cambridge staff development
A Cambridge Judge Business School Studentship has been established to encourage and support current members of staff at the University of Cambridge to join the MSt in Social Innovation. The studentship will constitute a 50% fee reduction (£8,400 payable in 2023/24 and £8,400 payable in 2024/25).
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit an expression of interest explaining (in less than 1,000 words) how they will be able to lead innovative solutions to pressing social issues by leveraging resources of the University of Cambridge. Candidates may also be required to attend an interview with the MSt in Social Innovation Programme Team.
Candidates must be current employees of the University of Cambridge and have received an offer to join the programme in October 2023 before they can be considered for the studentship.
The Lucy Cavendish College & CJBS Social Innovation Studentship
A £10,000 award (£5,000 payable in 2023/24 and £5,000 payable in 2024/25) has been made available by Lucy Cavendish in partnership with Cambridge Judge Business School for applicants on the MSt in Social Innovation. Candidates must select Lucy Cavendish as their first College choice. Lucy Cavendish and CJBS welcome applications from any candidate, irrespective of nationality or geographical location.
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit an application directly to Cambridge Judge Business School (MSt in Social Innovation):
- outlining a social innovation idea (or a change project within an organisation) which the programme can help realise
- explaining how the candidate will be able to play a part in the life of Lucy Cavendish College.
Candidates must have received an offer to join the programme in October 2023 and membership at Lucy Cavendish College before they can be considered for the studentship.
The Hughes Hall & CJBS Social Innovation Studentship
A £10,000 award (£5,000 payable in 2023/24 and £5,000 payable in 2024/25) has been made available by Hughes Hall in partnership with Cambridge Judge Business School for applicants on the MSt in Social Innovation. Candidates must select Hughes Hall as their first College choice. Hughes Hall and CJBS welcome applications from any candidate, irrespective of nationality or geographical location.
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit an application directly to Hughes Hall:
- outlining a social innovation business idea (or a change project within an organisation) which the programme can help realise, and
- explaining how the candidate will be able to play a part in the life of Hughes Hall and its Enterprise Society.

The St Edmund’s College & CJBS Social Innovation Scholarship
A £16,800 award (£8,400 payable in 2023/24 and £8,400 payable in 2024/25) has been made available by St Edmund’s College in partnership with Cambridge Judge Business Schools for applicants on the MSt in Social Innovation. St Edmund’s and CJBS welcome applications from any candidate, irrespective of nationality or geographical location. Applications are particularly welcomed from social sector practitioners (working at organisations with limited resources, such as NGOs, in particular).
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit an application:
- outlining a social innovation idea (or a change project within an organisation) which the programme can help realise explaining how the candidate will be able to play a part in the life of St Edmund’s College.
Candidates must have received an offer to join the programme in October 2023 for membership at St Edmunds College before they can be considered for the scholarship.
The Trinity Hall & CJBS Social Innovation Studentship
A £16,800 award (£8,400 payable in 2023/24 and £8,400 payable in 2024/25) has been made available by Trinity Hall in partnership with Cambridge Judge Business School for applicants on the MSt in Social Innovation. Candidates must select Trinity Hall as their first College choice. Trinity Hall and CJBS welcome applications from any candidate, irrespective of nationality or geographical location.
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit an application directly to Cambridge Judge Business School (MSt in Social Innovation):
- outlining a social innovation idea (or a change project within an organisation) which the programme can help realise
- explaining how the candidate will be able to play a part in the life of Trinity Hall College.
Candidates must have received an offer to join the programme in October 2023 and membership at Trinity Hall College before they can be considered for the scholarship.
The CURUFC & CJBS Social Innovation Studentship
A £10,000 award (£5,000 payable in 2023/24 and £5,000 payable in 2024/25) has been made available by the Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC) in partnership with Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS). This is open every year to applicants to the MSt in Social Innovation with a high-performance rugby background.
CURUFC and CJBS welcome applications from any candidate with an offer, irrespective of gender or nationality.
To apply for this funding applicants will be required to submit:
- a summary of the candidate’s rugby playing career/experience
- a proposal outlining:
- how the candidate will be able to play a part in the life of CURUFC
- how the candidate will be able to promote the MSt in Social Innovation to future applicants, including other high-performance rugby players.
Candidates must have received an offer to join the programme before they can be considered for the studentship.
Other funding
It might be possible to get funding for postgraduate study through loans, studentships, bursaries and grants for example. You might also consider approaching your employer for financial support which we strongly recommend.
Although the University of Cambridge has a variety of funding schemes administered by offices, departments, faculties, institutions and colleges, please note that most of them are not available to part-time students. We suggest that you search for funding opportunities offered by the University of Cambridge.
