Piers Sanders

Piers Sanders, Cambridge MBA alumnus

The strong and diverse cohort was one of my most valued aspects about the Cambridge MBA, along with the amount of projects providing practical experience throughout the programme.

Military background and reasons for choosing the Cambridge MBA

I started my military career at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst followed by five years in the Royal Engineers (British Army) up to rank of Captain. I then moved on to work four years as a management consultant at PA Consulting Group. I was looking for a one-year MBA, and chose Cambridge because of the specific curriculum and the number of live projects and practical experiences on offer.  As it's among the best rated, with a very good curriculum, it appealed to me the most. The number of live projects and practical experience also helped finalise my decision.

Most valued aspects of the programme

The strong and diverse cohort was one of my most valued aspects about the Cambridge MBA, along with the amount of projects providing practical experience throughout the programme. The opportunity to work internationally during the programme alongside individuals with a great deal of experience is unique. And finally, I would say that the general collaborative culture of the programme is also one of my most valued aspects about the programme.

The Cambridge MBA and career progression

The Cambridge MBA supported my career progression in multiple ways but transitioning from a role in consulting to a client-side role was where the programme was most beneficial. At the end of the Cambridge MBA I was able to join an MBA scheme with Lloyds Banking Group.

Recommendation to other military personnel

Having experienced the programme and successfully transitioned in my career, I would say that the Cambridge MBA is a great programme for anyone. Whatever the background, whether you are looking to transition into a different sector or progress in your current sector, I would definitely recommend the Cambridge MBA.
