Bethany Kanten

Bethany Kanten.
During the MBA, I am most excited about working with the international and multi-disciplinary community across the Business School, as well as the wider University of Cambridge community. I am looking forward to being surrounded by passionate people energised to learn and improve themselves and each other.

What led you to take the Cambridge MBA?

As someone looking to make a career in social impact, I don’t feel that I fit the mould of a “traditional” business school student. I was looking for a business school that offered me not only the academic business foundations, but also real-world experience through projects and internships, as well as an international community of peers. I was also drawn to Cambridge for the wider university community outside of the business school.

Describe the biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

The biggest accomplishment of my career thus far has not been the completion of a single project or goal but rising to becoming a leader of customer-centric design and problem solving within a large, multi-national, mass market business in rural Africa. I started my career as an intern on the engineering team, and within a few years was leading projects to solve and implement solutions to the most complex challenges on the commercial/operational front-end of the business. I love bringing customer empathy and insights to the forefront of business solutions and I am proud to have built that culture in my previous role.

How do you feel about being awarded your scholarship?

I am humbled and grateful to the Cambridge MBA Admissions team for selecting me for the Social Impact scholarship. The career path that I’ve chosen is uncommon and has been personally difficult at times living far from my family and home culture. Receiving an award from Cambridge recognising the value of the work that I’ve done makes me feel validated, more confident in myself, and energised for the future.

What do you want to get out of the MBA most of all in the next year?

During the MBA, I am most excited about working with the international and multi-disciplinary community within Cambridge Judge and the larger Cambridge University community. I am looking forward to being surrounded by passionate people energised to learn and improve themselves and each other.

Where do you see your MBA journey taking you in your future career?

I plan to combine my previous experience with the business foundations and experience gained during the MBA to continue a career in social impact, ideally in a leadership role within a small social impact organisation in a new geography.
