As a technology enthusiast, I was looking for a focused yet unique business education experience - one that will enable me to move from engineering to strategic management roles - the Cambridge MBA fits the bill.

What led you to take the Cambridge MBA?

Being on the Cambridge MBA has always been my dream for two reasons: its strong experiential curriculum and an unparalleled access to the Cambridge Technology Cluster. As a technology enthusiast, I was looking for a focused yet unique business education experience - one that will enable me to move from engineering to strategic management roles. The Cambridge MBA fits the bill with its intense 12-month programme that not only has a niche in Technology & Innovation, but also incorporates the University of Cambridge's rich collegiate tradition.

Describe the biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

Early in my career as a Technical Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Engineer, I was entrusted to lead the end-to-end design of an overall HSE system in a US$100 million greenfield chemical manufacturing facility. It was not always easy to convince engineers many years my senior while working under a tight timeline and budget; but being data-driven, adaptable and resilient helped tremendously. Seeing my engineering design transformed from drawings into real physical structures that operate well - and put smiles on my stakeholders' faces - is the greatest accomplishment, and satisfaction, in my career so far.

How do you feel about being awarded your scholarship?

Coming from a modest background, I am humbled to be awarded the LyondellBasell Scholarship, which has been a tremendous help financially. The scholarship is a key source of motivation, as well as a reminder to make the most out of my time during the Cambridge MBA and beyond.

What do you want to get out of the MBA most of all in the next year?

I aim to acquire exceptional business management and strategy skills to complement my technical background. By doing so, I hope to solve tough multidisciplinary problems with fresh perspectives when I relaunch into the workforce.

Where do you see your MBA journey taking you in your future career?

In the next five years, I see myself building a solid career path in strategic management, with an emphasis on Innovation and Sustainability. I look forward to working with highly diverse teams during my Cambridge MBA journey, which will prepare me well in managing highly effective teams in the future.

Something that not many people know about you

I am a huge fan of outdoor activities. So far I have done night-diving in Indonesia’s Pulau Weh, kayaked through Singapore’s Pulau Ubin, and scaled Stok Kangri in India, among others. I love the discipline and challenge from these activities and hope to master the art of punting during my year in Cambridge.
