The MBA is the launchpad for my career. I’m looking at the MBA to help me build the right skill set and foster the right connections so that I can take the next big step in the technology industry.

What led you to take the Cambridge MBA?

I chose Cambridge for my MBA based on three factors: the collaborative mindset, the focus and aptitude in technology, and the collegiate system. Through the course my career so far, I have learned what effective managers should and shouldn't do. I believe that Cambridge is best positioned to provide me with the skills, experiences, and networks I need to jump start my career in technology.

Describe the biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

My biggest achievement to date has been the success of three of my junior staff whom I mentored. As one of the younger members of the highly capable BRAVIA marketing team in Sony, I was privileged to have learned from the best in the business. Seeing the lack of a formal mentorship programme, I took the chance and mentored three junior staff members across Singapore and Indonesia and watched them accelerate in their careers.

How do you feel about being awarded your scholarship?

I feel privileged to be part of the Cambridge scholars community. As a student in Cambridge, I am always surrounded by the smartest and most talented minds in the world, and to be recognised in that community is a great honour for me. As a self-financing MBA, I have taken a massive risk to go back to school. Through the generosity of Cambridge Judge Business School, I feel like my burden has been lightened significantly.

What do you want to get out of the MBA most of all in the next year?

Today, at lunch I witnessed an alumni reception at my College with members of the Class of '56 in attendance. This is what I yearn for. The one thing I want to gain most from my MBA is a solid group of new friends who will help and teach each other and continue to talk closely as we move into the next step of our lives together. I hope to come back for the 2050 reunion and celebrate with everyone.

Where do you see your MBA journey taking you in your future career?

The MBA is the launchpad for my career. I’m looking at the MBA to help me build the right skill set and foster the right connections so that I can take the next big step in the technology industry.

Something that not many people know about you

I get stopped at immigration every time I travel because my passport photo doesn’t look like me. This is because I lost 50 kilograms through diet and exercise. Time to get a new passport!
