FotoStax, an imaging venture on the Accelerate Cambridge programme of Cambridge Judge co-founded by two Cambridge MBA graduates, is named one of the Most Disruptive MBA startups.
FotoStax, a venture co-founded by two Cambridge MBA graduates of Cambridge Judge Business School that is developing a device to capture and print moving and 3D images in instant print format, has been named one of the Most Disruptive MBA Startups of 2021 by the business school publication Poets & Quants. The venture is on the Accelerate Cambridge programme run by the Entrepreneurship Centre at the Business School.
The consumer electronics venture was founded by Jonathan McBride and Yusuke Enomoto, who completed the Cambridge MBA last year (both MBA 2020), and by Adam Peterson.
The startup, which ran an equity crowdfunding campaign in October, received the Santander Accelerate Project Award from the Accelerate Cambridge programme. The team believes that instant photography is having a great revival.
“People want something tangible,” Jonathan McBride says in the article. “In this increasingly digital era, people are craving something real. This desire is being accelerated by a global pandemic. This has forced us all to distance ourselves from one another. However, the pandemic will end, and people are hungrier than ever before for something physical, shareable, and instantaneous.”
He says that as a Cambridge MBA student and Chair of the CJBS Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group, “I connected with a thriving entrepreneurial community and received invaluable coaching from professors, peers, and guest speakers throughout the year at University of Cambridge.”
Among those he credited with helping the venture’s development are faculty members Jaideep Prabhu, Professor of Marketing; Chris Coleridge, Senior Faculty in Management Practice; and Simon Stockley, Senior Faculty in Management Practice, as well as entrepreneur and business angel Jack Lang, a Fellow in Entrepreneurship at Cambridge Judge, and Stewart McTavish, Director of ideaSpace at the University of Cambridge, who teach an MBA elective called “Entrepreneurship: How to Start a Company.”
