Sensory Design & Technology Ltd is the creator of Scent Bubble®, a patented wearable fragrance platform designed to transform fragrance from a static product into a personalised, user-controlled and sustainable sensory experience. Founded by designer, inventor and researcher Dr Jenny Tillotson, the company builds on more than two decades of pioneering research exploring how scent, fashion, technology and design can be combined to enrich everyday life.
Protected by granted US and European patents (US12,087,438B2 and EP3679586B1), Scent Bubble® combines wearable hardware, elegant jewellery and accessories, refillable fragrance pods and proprietary scent-control technology to maintain personalised fragrance throughout the day through precision micro-dosing. Designed to complement rather than replace traditional perfume, the platform enables users to adjust fragrance intensity, layer scents and personalise their experience while supporting more sustainable refillable fragrance products.
At the heart of Scent Bubble® is a patented scent-control algorithm that intelligently regulates fragrance micro-dosing to maintain a personalised scent bubble around the wearer, ensuring a consistent fragrance experience while minimising unnecessary release. This patented approach forms the foundation for future contextual personalisation, connecting fragrance, fashion and wearable technology to create richer multisensory experiences.
Future development will incorporate contextual optimisation using individual preferences together with wearable and environmental signals to deliver adaptive scent experiences, while ensuring people remain in control of when and how fragrance is released. Designed for fragrance, beauty and fashion partners, Scent Bubble® creates new opportunities for personalised consumer experiences, refillable product ecosystems and a new generation of wearable fragrance services.
The technology has been supported through programmes funded by Innovate UK, the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), building on earlier wearable scent-delivery research and development. Sensory Design & Technology works with organisations such as IFRA UK to support alignment with fragrance industry standards and best practice.
Building on the Cambridge Judge Business School Accelerate Programme, the company is focused on translating its patented research into a commercially scalable platform for global fragrance, beauty and fashion brands, creating a new category of wearable fragrance that reimagines the fragrance experience beyond the traditional perfume bottle.
