Idea

Levin Sources is a consultancy and social venture that moves more minerals through systems where good governance and better business are the norm. For more than 7 years, they have been at the forefront of responsible mining and sourcing, with unique expertise in issues surrounding raw materials sustainability and artisanal and small-scale mining.

Levin Sources deploy its assets to find inventive and pragmatic solutions to complex issues in supply chains all over the world. Through their work, the company drives performance in upstream and downstream mineral economies, creating and optimising the operating conditions that make responsible business conduct possible.

Levin Sources helps corporate clients enhance value and deliver positive outcomes for society through improving their strategies, systems, and suppliers. They also help governments improve integrity, sustainability performance and governance in minerals sectors. Driven by their quest for impact, Levin Sources pioneers to dismantle barriers to sustainability in the minerals sector, catalysing new approaches or mainstreaming others’ successes.

People

Levin Sources was founded by Estelle Levin-Nally. Estelle has over a decade of experience in the minerals, development and environment spheres. She is a researcher, educator and innovator at heart and applies her technical enquiry and her relationship management skills to create confidence and trust. Her work in in this field started in Sierra Leone and she has since worked across the globe for the company’s mission of responsible mining and sourcing.

Levin Sources is a core team of strategists, researchers, project managers, educators and communicators with multidisciplinary abilities and a collective expert knowledge in sustainable supply chains, extractives, minerals science and engineering, biodiversity and conservation, human rights and vulnerable groups, responsible business conduct and good governance.

Impact

Levin Sources is a social venture that exists to mobilise the potential of raw materials to deliver positive outcomes for society, across space and time.

Through their work, more biodiversity will be conserved, more vulnerable groups empowered, more human rights fulfilled, more economies made strong, and more individuals realising their dreams. The company allocates at least 2% of staff time to work on projects on a not-for-profit or philanthropic basis.

Its public interest activities in influencing, educating and convening focus on its 4 themes for 2017/18:

  1. conservation and the environment
  2. protection of vulnerable groups
  3. reducing social injustice
  4. micro and small business sustainability and growth
