As the inaugural event of the Cambridge Space Economy Initiative, this workshop brings together expertise from academia, industry, government and finance to examine how market development interacts with the technologies and services reshaping the space economy.

The Centre for India and Global Business at Cambridge Judge Business School is launching the Cambridge Space Economy Initiative, a new platform for exploring the economic, technological and governance questions shaping the future of the global space economy.
The Initiative’s inaugural workshop will focus on the space economy as a frontier market. Technological capabilities continue to advance rapidly, while demand, infrastructure, financing, regulation and governance frameworks are still evolving. The workshop will examine a central question for policymakers, investors and industry leaders alike: when does a promising technical capability become a scalable, investable and sustainable market opportunity?
Bringing together academia, industry, government and finance, the workshop will examine how market development interacts with the technologies and services reshaping the sector. Discussions will span global governance, public procurement, institutional partnerships, satellite communications, secure multi-orbit infrastructure, regional innovation clusters, insurance and risk allocation, orbital data centres, space-based solar power, in-space manufacturing, Earth observation, quantum technologies and the economics of emerging space markets.
The conversation will extend beyond technological innovation alone. Participants will consider who the customers are, how value can be created and captured, what infrastructure and investment are required to support growth, how risk is allocated and what governance arrangements can enable sustainable and commercially credible deployment.
As the first event in the Initiative’s programme for Michaelmas term, the workshop will help shape future research, teaching and engagement with industry and policy communities. It will also establish a foundation for ongoing discussion and collaboration around the opportunities and challenges emerging across the space economy.
