Programme: MFin 2025
Pre-MFin role: Corporate Banking Senior Associate, Bank of China

From Lima’s banking sector to the Cambridge MFin
Before joining the MFin, I spent over a decade in commercial and corporate banking in Peru. I worked across key industries, including energy, utilities and infrastructure, for local and international banks. Most recently, as a Senior Associate at the Bank of China in Peru, I structured and executed bilateral and syndicated loans across Peru and Latin America. I also developed expertise in credit analysis and risk management, and worked on cross‑border transactions with multilateral development banks.
With every transaction, I could see how high‑quality infrastructure and sustainable energy projects could transform communities. The work was technically demanding and intellectually stimulating.
But 2 thoughts kept coming back. First, I wanted to strengthen my technical foundations in finance to operate confidently in more complex and innovative transactions. Second, I wanted my career to contribute more directly to long‑term development, particularly the energy transition in Peru and the wider region.
The Cambridge MFin seemed like the right place to combine those objectives.
Why I chose the Cambridge Master of Finance
From the very beginning, the Cambridge MFin stood out to me for 2 reasons: its strong reputation in finance and its close links with industry and policy.
My long‑term goal is to contribute to financing the energy transition in Peru, supporting decarbonisation and universal access to energy. I believed the MFin could provide rigorous training in areas such as corporate finance, financial modelling and investments, as well as exposure to practitioners working in banks, development finance institutions and funds, and a diverse, experienced cohort to learn from every day.
What this year means to me as a Chevening Scholar
Being awarded a Chevening Scholarship also played a major role in my decision. It has connected me to a global community of professionals who are committed to driving change in their home countries.
People often describe Cambridge as a transformative experience. Looking back on the year so far, I can see why. The combination of rigorous teaching, diverse classmates and the unique atmosphere of the University has expanded my horizons in many ways.
I now feel more confident in my technical skills, but also more ambitious in the kind of impact I want my career to have. I aim to continue building a career in infrastructure and development finance, helping to structure and finance projects that support the energy transition and sustainable growth in Latin America.
I know I will miss the formal halls, the talks by inspiring speakers and the long conversations in Cambridge pubs with friends from all over the world. But I will leave with strong friendships, a deeper sense of purpose and a network that I am sure will stay with me for life.
Looking ahead: my plans after the MFin
After the MFin, I aim to continue building a career in infrastructure finance, ideally within multilateral development banks or development finance institutions, focusing on Latin America. I want to contribute to financing Peru’s key infrastructure and energy projects, helping to accelerate the region’s energy transition.
