El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy

MS (University of Warwick), PhD (University of Nottingham)

I specialise in social norms and social dilemmas using abstract behavioural games to contribute towards theoretical behavioural research. I also explore behavioural insights using experimental methods to apply them into real-world problems and provide evidence-based policy designs and recommendations. I conduct both traditional laboratory experiments and incentivised survey experiments. I have conducted lab-in-field experiments in Sub-Saharan Africa, and I am keen to expand my expertise using experimental tools in the Global South.

Previous appointments

Dr Surachita was a post-doctoral researcher in behavioural economics in the SPACES project (Sustainable Plastic Attitudes to benefit Communities and their Environments), a £3.4 million, NERC UKRI-funded project at the University of Stirling that aimed to understand the public health risks and environmental impacts of plastic pollution in developing countries and to explore interventions, policies and regulations to mitigate these risks. It was an international collaboration between multiple partner organisations across the UK, Malawi and Tanzania.
