El-Erian, President of Queens’ College, and Chief Economic Advisor to the Allianz Group, in his chat with Stephen King, Economist, the Senior Economic Advisor at HSBC Holdings and the author of “We Need to Talk About Inflation” (Yale, April 2023); and an introduction by Professor Lucia Reisch, El-Erian Professor of Behavioural Economics and Policy at Cambridge Judge Business School and Queens’ College Fellow.

Why do we need to talk about inflation? Most investors and policymakers had previously believed that inflation was no longer a significant threat. However, with persistent inflation, people worldwide are seeing their purchasing power erode, adding to economic and social challenges including worsening inequality. A particular focus of the debate will be on how inflation influences the way we think and behave on the long-standing misconceptions about inflation and the actionable steps to address the current political and social turbulence caused by it. The conversation will draw on King’s rich professional experience, including HM Treasury and HSBC’s Senior Economic Adviser.
