Now Chair of Trustees for the charity Practical Action, I was elected to a Research Fellowship of Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1968. Three years later I became a University Lecturer in Operational Research and Statistics in the Department of Engineering and an Official Fellow of the College. In 1978 I became Head of the Management Studies Group in the Department of Engineering, and in 1986 was elected the first Professor of Management Studies in the University. Much involved with the development of management education, I became the first Director of Cambridge Judge Business School in 1990.
