Dr Simon Taylor in the running for the 2012 EIU Business Professor of the Year Award!

Congratulations to Dr Simon Taylor, University Lecturer in Finance at Cambridge Judge Business School, for being nominated for the EIU Business Professor of the Year Award, presented by the Economist Intelligence Unit

Dr Simon TaylorDr Taylor, who is also the Director of the Cambridge Master of Finance (MFin) degree, was nominated by one of his previous students, Elona Cela (MFin 2010), who describes him as an excellent lecturer, who has been and is a continuous source of inspiration.

In her nomination, Elona wrote:

Dr Taylor is an excellent lecturer who makes finance entertaining and interesting. An expert in finance, he always has a witty view about any topic, from the future of the euro, world economy and China, to the economics of Scotch whiskey, dragon ladies and why Breakfast at Tiffany’s was better as a novella than a movie!”

All nominated professors are now featured on the Business Professor of the Year website and are able to receive votes until the closing date of Friday 23 November at 17:00. Those with the most votes will proceed to the long list of 15 professors, which will be judged by an expert panel of judges.

The judges will then whittle their selection down to a shortlist of four professors, who will then be invited to London to take place in a live ‘Teach-Off’ in March, which will be determined on votes from an audience, both live and online. The winning professor will receive a prize of US $100,000.

Dr Taylor spent nine years as an equity analyst at a number of investment banks, including BZW, JPMorgan and Citigroup, where he was involved in several major equity transactions and takeovers and led research teams covering the European and global utilities sectors. In 2001 he became Deputy Head of European Equity Research at JPMorgan where he had management responsibility for the technical and quantitative research teams and for the technology, media and telecoms sectors. He was a leading member of the team that set up JPMorgan’s global research centre in Mumbai, India in 2003. He joined Cambridge Judge Business School in 2007.
