Professor Walter W. Powell, Stanford University: Don’t have too much faith in single rules and single organisations

At the Centre for Risk Studies’ 4th Annual Meeting, leaders and decision makers from business, government, inter-governmental organisations, academia and NGOs explored the links between risk and strategy.

Challenging the customary perception that risk is the threat of loss with predominantly negative undertones, the annual conference encouraged broader discussion about opportunities that emerge in a risky environment.

Walter W. Powell is Professor of Education and Sociology, Organizational Behavior, Management Science and Engineering, and Communication, and Co-Director of the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, at Stanford University. “Don’t have too much faith in single rules and single organisations,” he warns.
