Eric Okyerefo: Building Africa’s creative future

What led you to choose the Cambridge MBA? 

Cambridge stood out to me because of its cross-disciplinary ecosystem, global network and strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. I wanted a programme that would stretch my thinking, expose me to capital and policy conversations and connect me with other builders reimagining industries. Cambridge Judge Business School’s focus on impact-driven leadership aligned perfectly with my long-term vision of shaping Africa’s creative economy. 

What has been your biggest career accomplishment so far? 

Raising over $2.5 million to build essential tools and infrastructure for Africa’s creative industry and seeing thousands of creatives use those platforms to get hired or bring their ideas to life, has been a humbling and powerful accomplishment. More personally, it’s knowing I’ve helped create opportunities for people who, like me, have big dreams. 

How do you feel about receiving your scholarship? 

Grateful and deeply encouraged. It’s more than financial support. it’s a vote of confidence in my potential and the work I’m doing. This scholarship frees me to focus fully on making the most of this opportunity. 

What do you hope to gain from the MBA over the next year? 

I hope to sharpen my leadership and global business strategy skills, build lifelong relationships and deepen my understanding of how capital, technology and policy can be better mobilised for creative economies. I also want to gain exposure to global investors, operators and policymakers to scale my ventures and drive long-term industry change. 

Where do you see the MBA taking you in your future career? 

In the next decade, I see myself leading a global creative-tech conglomerate rooted in Africa, investing in film, music, infrastructure and technology to empower storytellers and entrepreneurs across emerging markets. The Cambridge MBA is a strategic launchpad for this next chapter of growth, scale and influence. 

What does Cambridge mean to you? 

Cambridge represents legacy, excellence and transformation. For me, it’s a symbol that anything is possible. 

Something few people know about you… 

I write poetry and scripts late at night when the world is quiet. It’s my way of staying grounded and remembering that behind every strategy or deal is a human story waiting to be told.
