Detailed requirements

Undergraduate achievement

Candidates are expected to have a good undergraduate degree from a recognised university. The precise qualification varies according to country and university, but as a general guide we are looking for the equivalent of a first-class or good upper second-class honours in the British system. You must submit a copy of your undergraduate academic transcript (or degree certificate if a transcript is not available).

We are also interested in any postgraduate qualifications you have and a good result in a masters degree will allow your application to be considered despite not achieving the required standard at undergraduate level. Your application will be considered if you have lower grades, but only if you can demonstrate that you have been exceptionally successful in other ways. In such cases, you will also need to provide a good score on the GMAT exam.

Please note that the University of Cambridge does not consider applications to postgraduate programmes from applicants with no undergraduate degree. This includes applications to the Diploma.

English proficiency

Applicants to the programme need to be fluent in English and we assess fluency in the following ways:

  • if English is your native language.
  • or you have an IELTS minimum overall score of 7.5, with not less than 7.0 in each element. The separate components must have been taken at the same time and in the past two years.
  • or if you have a TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) minimum overall score of 110, with not less than 25 in each element.

Not yet taken a language test? Test result out-of-date or not up to the required standard? Don't worry, you don't have to include your English language test scores with your initial application documents; they can be forwarded on later in the process. If you are made an offer, one of the conditions of entry will be getting the required standard of language test score.

Skills & competencies

Your application will include answers to several essay questions concerning your entrepreneurial goals and objectives, and the efforts you have taken to advance any entrepreneurial projects prior to the programme.
