What do wedding bells and graduation gowns have in common? Brooke Bornick and Sebastien Long (EMBA 2016) who fell in love in the halls of Cambridge Judge Business School married just before their Cambridge Executive MBA graduation ceremony.
“Sebastien was one of the first people from the Cambridge Executive MBA (EMBA) that I met online before arriving for Orientation week. He and I were placed in a study group together for the first semester. Seb did all of his work to such a high standard that I worked harder and learned more. Soon it was time to choose groups for the team consulting project and I asked Seb to join my team. He said yes, and we had another 11 months of working together.
“Falling in love with Seb was the most natural thing that’s happened to me. It didn’t make any sense initially as he lived and worked in London, and my children and home were in Texas. Our relationship began in an unconventional way, but the EMBA allowed us to get to know each other faster than in everyday life. We had worked together under pressure many times, we’d spent hundreds of hours in class together, and almost as much time outside of class socialising with mutual friends.
“In May 2018, we married in a small ceremony at Pembroke College, the day before our graduation. We punted down the Cam with our wedding party and then attended a drinks reception at Cambridge Judge in our wedding clothes. I threw my bouquet in the Simon Sainsbury Centre.
“Now that the wedding is over and Seb has moved to Texas, we are building a completely new life together. We work from home together most days, building our respective startups (I’m also still practicing law). He loves our daughters and they call him ‘Sebbie’.”
