A PhD candidate at Cambridge Judge Business School has been invited to give a presentation on business and investment in African frontier markets as part of the Lucy Cavendish College Thursday Evening Talks series on 25 October 2012.
Namukale Chintu is currently studying for a PhD in International Business and Strategy, and her research focuses on the internationalisation of firms from emerging markets in frontier economies.
Her presentation will focus on business and investment in African economies and initiatives that have been developed to aid knowledge sharing in this area. She will also be discussing how over the last decade, foreign investment in Africa has grown from $12.6 billion in 1999 to over $60 billion in 2009 and that this upsurge was initially driven by mass deregulation on African economies, followed by the upswing in commodity prices due to China’s materials-led growth. As investment has also come from internal demand in more recent times, Namukale will also touch on how this includes a push for infrastructure development in these countries, regional integration and a growing African consumer base coming out of economic growth.
Namukale commented:
My research has strategy implications for capital markets and firms from developed countries that had traditionally dominated African countries for natural resources and for potential investors that overlook the opportunities for growth in these economies.”
The talk is one of a programme of events run by Lucy Cavendish College and is open to all on a first-come, first-served basis. Namukale’s presentation starts at 18:00 and will last for 45 minutes, with a 15-minute discussion session afterwards.
