Professor Jaideep Prabhu from Cambridge Judge Business School, co-author of the widely acclaimed book Jugaad Innovation, was invited to speak at an event in London, which focused around the launch of a comprehensive new report on Indian innovation.
Organised by Nesta, an independent charity with a mission to help people and organisations bring great ideas to life, the half-day event took place on 25 September and centred around the report ‘Our Frugal Future: Lessons from India’s Innovation System’, which was launched in July 2012. It also brought together a number of leading thinkers on innovation in India to look at whether there are implications for other countries, including the UK.
Professor Prabhu participated in the second session which gave an in-depth insight into frugal innovation and how radical approaches underway in India have global implications for companies and public services alike.
Speaking about the event, Professor Prabhu commented:
It’s great to see that interest in innovation in India is gathering pace in the West. It is especially heartening to observe the interest in what is increasingly regarded as India’s unique contribution in this regard; namely frugal innovation or jugaad. The Nesta event was an amazing showcase of the strengths of the Indian approach to innovation with many excellent speakers and delegates in attendance.”
