The late Cambridge Judge Business School Professor, Sucheta S. Nadkarni, who sadly passed away in October 2019, has been honoured with the creation of two new awards.

The Strategic Management Society has created the Sucheta Nadkarni Award for Outstanding Publication on Women Executive Leadership.

Cambridge Judge Business School has sponsored this award in memory of our friend and colleague. Award nominations are open until 31 July 2020 and will recognise a refereed journal publication with “potential to significantly impact our understanding of women executive leadership”.

The new award was launched by the Behavioural Strategy and Strategic Leadership & Governance Interest Groups of the Strategic Management Society, which publishes the academic journals Strategic Management JournalStrategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Global Strategy Journal.

The Academy of Management has created The Phillips and Nadkarni Award for Outstanding Paper on Diversity and Cognition, honouring the late Dr Katherine W. Phillips who pioneered research on the benefits of diversity in the workplace and the late Dr Sucheta Nadkarni, who pioneered research on gender diversity and strategic leadership.

This award, which will start in 2021, is launched by the Managerial and Organizational Cognition (MOC) division and will be given to the author(s) of the best paper at the intersection of diversity and cognition submitted to the MOC division for the annual Academy of Management meeting.

Paper author(s) will be able to self-nominate beginning in the autumn of 2020.

Dr Jenny Chu, Academic Director of the Wo+Men’s Leadership Centre (WLC) at Cambridge Judge Business School and University Lecturer in Accounting, and WLC Executive Director Tracey Horn, said:

Sucheta served as the Director of our Wo+Men’s Leadership Centre, undertaking ground breaking research on gender diversity and inspiring the next generation of women leaders. We miss her dearly and are delighted by this gesture from both the Strategic Management Society and the Academy of Management, which honours Sucheta’s life and work and highlights the esteem in which Sucheta was held.
