Catching paedophiles

A novel study in the Academy of Management Journal offers law enforcement an embedded view of the practice of ‘hunting’ paedophiles – which also has implications for other controversial closed communities enabled by social media.
The study was co-authored by Mark de Rond, Professor of Organisational Ethnography at Cambridge Judge Business School.

Cambridge Judge Business School’s global reputation in business and management studies is recognised in the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
The REF is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions and is undertaken by the four UK higher education funding bodies: Research England, the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland.

New book asks why ever more is spent on mergers when so many fail

Mergers are constructed by talented executives, lawyers, bankers and advisers, yet most deals fail. A new book The Merger Mystery, co-authored by Professor Geoff Meeks of Cambridge Judge, outlines the reasons why.
Mergers of firms have boomed over the past four decades, with a 40-fold increase in deals done each year. These mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are sealed by talented, highly skilled executives, lawyers, bankers and advisers, and spending on mergers totalled $5 trillion in 2021. Yet most mergers fail, and don’t achieve the boost in operating profits they were touted to achieve. Why? And why hasn’t this been fixed?

Lunch in a Cambridge garden without fear of fighter jets

Maryna Marchenko, who heads a charity to help mothers in Ukraine, says she enriched her life and her work through the Rising Women Leaders Programme at Cambridge Judge Business School.
Maryna, age 26, heads an organisation based in Kyiv known as Lada, which helps women learn new skills and return to the workforce after having children.

A third of church buildings cost more money each year than they are able to raise and only one in 5 is financially profitable, according to an audit of churches carried out in Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk.
