Learning from the digital overhauls and the emergence of platforms in other service industries, such as communication, hospitality, retail sales, and entertainment, it is likely that in the near future both how financial services are supplied and who supplies them will be different.

Financial services are increasingly being demanded in digital form. With the relentless power of Moore’s Law, critical financial decisions are being delegated to algorithms. These are quickly becoming better and cheaper processors of information compared to humans.

Technology in markets – algorithmic trading

The Centre identifies key policy and regulatory questions in the intersection of digital technologies and regulated financial markets for securities and derivatives. It conducts high quality academic research, and communicates results back to the industry and regulators via outreach in the form of conferences, workshops and visits. The Centre then incorporates the acquired knowledge into degree and Executive Education programmes.

The Centre engages in high quality academic research in the area of crypto assets. It conducts outreach in the form of conferences, workshops and visits. The Centre then develops courses on this and related subjects for degree and Executive Education programmes.

Future areas of focus

The Centre will begin seeding research projects and developing educational capacity in three areas. In summary, these are technology in banking and insurance, technology in payments, and technology in wealth management.
