Professor David Newbery made a Commander of the British Empire for services to economics

Cambridge Judge Business School is delighted to congratulate Professor David Newbery for being made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2012 for services to economics.

Professor Newbery is the Director of the Electricity Policy Research Group (EPRG) and Fellow in Energy Regulation at Cambridge Judge Business School, as well as Emeritus Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Cambridge.

Having initially been appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Economics in 1966, Professor Newbery became Reader in 1986, and in 1988 was appointed Professor of Applied Economics and Director of the Department of Applied Economics.

From 1989 to 2011, he led a series of research projects on the electricity industry, mostly funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Funding from the Cambridge MIT Institute from 2001 to 2005 enabled EPRG to treble in size and it expanded from the Faculty of Economics to become a joint enterprise with Cambridge Judge Business School.

Professor Newbery also holds a half-time Research Fellowship in the Centre for Sustainable Electricity and Distributed Generation at Imperial College London, and in 2013 will be President of the International Association of Energy Economics.
