Biography

Carter Dredge is a healthcare industry thought leader and disruptive innovation transformationalist and currently serves as the senior vice president and chief transformation officer for SSM Health – a large and progressive US-based not-for-profit health system. Carter provides executive strategic leadership for SSM Health’s continued transformation from a fee-for-service system to one focused on managing the health of populations. He leads the areas of transformation, innovation, advanced analytics, and large-impact and novel partnerships across the organisation. Prior to joining SSM Health, Carter held various executive positions at two other large US-based healthcare systems – Catholic Health Initiatives (now Common Spirit Health) and Intermountain Healthcare.

Carter is a founding board member and a key business model architect of Civica Rx, an innovative not-for-profit generic drug company designed to disrupt the US generics market and ensure that essential generic drugs are available and affordable to everyone. He is also on the board of Navitus Health Solutions, a national-scale fully transparent pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). Carter is a Fellow of the fifth class of the Health Innovators Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network; and was recognised by Modern Healthcare as one of the Top 25 Emerging Leaders in the United States.

Carter holds a bachelors degree in business management/corporate finance from Brigham Young University where he graduated summa cum laude, and a masters of healthcare administration from Cornell University, where he also currently serves as a lecturer in the College of Policy Analysis and Management teaching a course on innovative healthcare payment design. 

Outside of his professional career, Carter spent 2 years in sub-Saharan Africa doing ecclesiastical and humanitarian work; and he also enjoys running, rock climbing, skiing, and mountain biking. Carter and his wife Rachel are the proud parents of 4 children.
