Idea
Worthwhile connects the best career starters with brilliant charities and social enterprises.
They take the pain out of finding motivated career starters with a history of commitment to social action and leadership experience. Worthwhile takes care of recruitment, training and support for entry level and junior manager level candidates.
They support young people to pursue a career in social impact through a graduate scheme, training, recruitment services and our community.
People
Pippa Smith is the Director of Worthwhile. Pippa is a Cambridge graduate who discovered a love of social enterprise during her own Worthwhile placement. She went on to manage an accelerator for climate change startups at Climate-KIC, and then to lead European-wide challenge prizes at Nesta. After supporting social entrepreneurs, she joined Worthwhile in summer 2018 to take on the challenge of being a social entrepreneur herself.
Worthwhile’s Learning and Development Manager, Sonia Kumari, is also an alumni of Worthwhile. Before joining the Worthwhile team, Sonia was managing skilled placements, training, and in-curriculum service learning programmes at Kingston Hub.
Impact
Worthwhile’s mission is to create the conditions for young people to do their best work in social impact. That means tapping into the brilliant, dynamic generation of purpose-driven career starters, working with innovative charities and fast-growing social enterprises, and helping both to get the best out of each other.
Worthwhile is here to support small organisations in the social impact sector to attract and develop the top talent entering the sector. Their programmes support these career starters to learn vital skills and develop a growth mindset so they can be more effective in their roles and progress quickly in the sector; ultimately so organisations create more impact through their teams.
There are nearly 150 alumni from the Worthwhile scheme. 89% of these have continued careers in social impact. 100% of organisations Worthwhile have worked with would hire through them again and 100% valued or highly valued their graduate’s contribution to their work.
