EnterpriseTECH PhD+

This stream of EnterpriseTECH has been created in response to a rising demand for innovation and entrepreneurship training across the University of Cambridge. We launched it in September 2018.

This programme is specifically for PhD students, postdocs and research-focussed staff. All participants that successfully complete the programme are awarded a Cambridge Judge Business School Certificate of Completion.

EnterpriseTECH equips scientifically-minded students with a commercial awareness of entrepreneurship. It changes how you see your own work and the work of others by giving you an eye for innovation. It should be beneficial for anyone thinking of working in the startup sector. Many graduates are now shunning the traditional large graduate employers in favour of science and tech SMEs.
Clement Moylan, Department of Physics, EnterpriseTECH student, 2018

  • EPSRC-funded PhD students from departments across the School of Physical Sciences and School of Technology.
  • PhDs and postdocs from departments across the School of Biological Sciences whose research falls under the BBSRC remit.
  • Places for early career academics and postdocs from departments across the School of Humanities & Social Sciences.

Applications are welcome from other PhD students, postdocs and research-focussed University staff. Please ensure the programme fee can be covered or reimbursed from an appropriate source (e.g. a training budget or departmental funding) when you submit your application.

All participants that successfully complete the programme are awarded a Cambridge Judge Business School Certificate of Completion. In order to be awarded this, participants must satisfy the general assessment requirements, and the video and report must be submitted by the deadline of Friday 15 March 2019. Assessments are graded as Fail, Pass or Distinction. Detailed feedback is sent back to teams.

In addition to the above dates, we'll be running a PhD+ programme again in September 2019 (provisional dates for the intensive lecture series will be 5-7 September 2019).

EnterpriseTECH is a great insight into the challenges of commercialising a novel technology. It is a fun and intellectually stimulating programme where you have the opportunity to work within a team to develop creative solutions to business problems you could face in your future careers.
